Warum healmeal ungesalzen ist – und warum das deine beste Entscheidung ist

Why healmeal is unsalted – and why that's your best decision

The Unusual Decision: Unsalted as Standard

We know what you're thinking: "A ready-to-eat meal – and I have to salt it myself? Isn't that inconvenient?"

Yes, it's unusual. Maybe even a little inconvenient. But it's one of the most thoughtful decisions we've made at healmeal.

Why? Because salt is not the same for everyone. And because we want to give you control – over your diet, your health, your well-being.

Let us explain why this seemingly small decision makes a huge difference.

The Salt Dilemma: Too Much is Bad, Too Little Also

Salt is a double-edged sword:

Too much salt: The known risks

If you consume too much salt over a long period, it can have serious consequences:

  • Increased blood pressure: Salt binds water in the body, increasing blood volume and thus pressure on the blood vessel walls
  • Cardiovascular risk: Long-term, the risk of heart attack and stroke increases Strain on the kidneys: They have to work harder to excrete excess sodium

The WHO and the German Nutrition Society recommend a maximum of 5-6 grams of salt per day. Many people, however, consume 8-10 grams or more – often unconsciously, because convenience foods contain so much salt.

Too little salt: The underestimated danger

But here's the important point: Too little salt is even more problematic for your body than too much.

  • Salt deficiency (hyponatremia) can lead to:
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Dizziness and confusion
  • Muscle cramps
  • In extreme cases: impaired consciousness

Your body needs sodium for:

  • Nerve impulses
  • Muscle contractions
  • Water balance
  • Nutrient absorption

A salt-free life is a disaster for your body. Balance is crucial. Why not just add "the right amount"?

Good question! Why don't we just pre-salt moderately? Because "the right amount" is different for everyone.

Different people, different needs

Athletes & Bodybuilders: One of our customers, bodybuilder Fabian Rogg, told us: "Dude, you're the best because you don't use salt!" Bodybuilders have to pay extremely close attention to their salt intake – often very low before competitions, different during the bulking phase. For them, our unsalted base is perfect.

People with high blood pressure or heart disease: They need to strictly control their salt intake. With pre-salted meals, they would be out – with healmeal, they can choose exactly the amount that suits them.

Biohackers & Longevity Focus: If you want to optimize your diet down to the smallest detail, you need full control. Only by starting from scratch can you precisely measure and adjust.

People in detox phases or retreats: Sometimes it makes sense to consciously omit or reduce salt to reset taste sensitivity. This is only possible if the food is unsalted.

Different tastes: What is perfectly salted for one person may taste like nothing to another. Tastes vary widely – especially with salt.

The advantages: Self-determination and precision

When you salt yourself, you gain:

1. Absolute control

You decide how much salt you consume on any given day. You can vary, experiment, adjust – depending on your needs, activity, or health goals.

2. Accuracy for your goals

If you say: "I want exactly 4 grams of salt per day" – you can only achieve that if you start from scratch. As soon as there's salt in the food, you lose that precision.

3. Health Flexibility

People with certain illnesses can eat healmeal because they can decide for themselves if and how much salt to add. This makes our offering more inclusive.

4. Taste Reset

If you occasionally completely forgo salt or significantly reduce it, your taste sensitivity can reset. You will then need less salt to experience the same taste. This is healthy and saves you sodium in the long term.

Iodine and Thyroid: An Important Aspect

An often overlooked point: Salt is also an important source of iodine.

Iodine is essential for the production of thyroid hormones T3 and T4. People – especially those with hypothyroidism – need sufficient iodine.

Since many people absorb iodine primarily through iodized table salt, it is even more important that you can decide for yourself which salt you use:

Iodized salt for optimal iodine supply
Non-iodized salt if you get iodine from other sources The exact amount that suits your needs

By remaining unsalted, you don't hand over this decision to us – you keep it in your own hands.

Why German rock salt?
If you want to add salt to your healmeal, we recommend German rock salt. Why?

1. Little to no microplastics
Here's where it gets interesting: Sea salt is contaminated with microplastics.

Studies have shown that all tested sea salts contain microplastic particles – especially Fleur de Sel with up to 5,400 particles per kilogram. The Mediterranean is particularly affected because it functions like a "bathtub" – plastic goes in, but it's difficult to get out.

Rock salt is significantly less contaminated: In many rock salts, no microplastics were found at all, because it comes from deep earth layers that were formed long before the plastic era.

2. Regional and sustainable

Himalayan salt has good marketing and a few more minerals (hence the color) – but at the end of the day, that doesn't make a huge difference. And it has to be flown in.

German rock salt comes from our own soil. This is:

  • More environmentally friendly (no long transport)
  • Regional
  • Just as high quality

3. Lower toxin burden

Rock salt from deep earth layers is generally less contaminated with modern environmental toxins than sea salt, which is extracted from our polluted oceans.

For us, it was a no-brainer: German rock salt is the best choice.

We understand that it's unusual to salt yourself – especially on the go. That's why we offer: Mini salt shakers: Perfect for the office, on the go, or for travel

High-quality German rock salt: Available for purchase in our shop

This way, you always have the option to season your meal exactly as you need it – without compromise.

The Philosophy: Conscious Food Made Easy

This decision – to remain unsalted – is symptomatic of our entire philosophy at healmeal:

Conscious eating, made easy.

We want to give you the tools to shape your diet independently. Down to the last detail. Without having to spend hours in the kitchen.

You get:

  • The basis: Perfectly composed, nutrient-rich, from the best ingredients
  • The control: Over salt, portions, combinations
  • The freedom: To decide what is right for your body

Exactly what biohacking and longevity mean to us: Not dogmatically following a rule, but understanding what your body needs – and giving it exactly that.

Conclusion: Unsalted is not impractical – it is empowering

  • Salt consumption is individual – what suits one person is too much or too little for another
  • Too much salt increases blood pressure and cardiovascular risks
  • Too little salt is even more problematic – balance is crucial
  • Unsalted = full control for athletes, the sick, biohackers and everyone who wants to be precise
  • German rock salt is free of microplastics and sustainable
  • Iodine through salt you can control yourself, depending on your needs
  • Self-determination is the key to conscious nutrition

Yes, it means a small extra step. But this step gives you back the power – over your health, your performance, your well-being.

And that's worth it.

Ready for self-determined nutrition? Try healmeal – and season to your taste.
